Teaching Structure of Modules

Module 1

TECHNIQUES, TRAINING & PRACTICE (80 HOURS)

> Asana Practice & Teaching Methodology – 45 hours
All hours are taught in person by Emily Gilchrist, and students will also have access to complimentary live-streamed online classes every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

>Pranayama: Theory & Practice – 15 hours

  • 10 hours taught in person by Emily Gilchrist

  • 5 hours of integrated pranayama practice, bandhas and theory with Guy Donnahaye

    >Meditation, Chanting, Mudra & Mantra – 10 hours

  • 5 hours taught in person by Emily Gilchrist

  • 5 hours of integrated meditation taught online by Guy Donnahaye

>Sequencing, Safety & Adaptations – 10 hours
Taught in person by Emily Gilchrist

Module 2

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (30 HOURS)

>Skeletal System, Muscular System, Joints & Muscle Contractions – 10 Hours
10 hours delivered online by David Keil via a self-paced learning module. Content includes recorded lectures, required reading, guided physical exploration practices, and online quizzes. Learning progress is trackable, and all quizzes must be completed with a minimum pass rate of 75%.

>Nervous, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Endocrine & Digestive Systems – 10 Hours
10 hours delivered online by David Keil through the same self-paced learning platform. Teaching methods include recorded presentations, reading materials, experiential practices, and assessed online quizzes, with a required pass rate of 75%.

>Biomechanics, Joint Stability & Principles of Safe Moveme10 hours taught in person by Emily Gilchrist during studio weekends. These sessions focus on integrating online anatomical study into embodied movement, functional application, discussion, and practical teaching skills.

Module 3

YOGA HUMANITIES

(30 HOURS)

>History of Yoga (Vedic to Modern) – 5 Hours
• 1.5 hours taught online by Guy Donnahaye, covering the development of yoga from ancient Vedic origins through classical, medieval, and modern periods.
• 3.5 hours taught in person by Emily Gilchrist, providing historical context on significant teachers, lineages, and their influence on contemporary yoga practice.

>Yoga Philosophy (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads & Hatha Yoga Pradipika) – 10 Hours
• 9 hours taught online by Guy Donnahaye, offering an in-depth study of foundational yogic texts and their philosophical frameworks.
• 1 hour taught in person by Emily Gilchrist, integrating key philosophical teachings into embodied practice and teaching methodology.

>Ethics, Yamas & Niyamas, Yoga Alliance Ethical Code, Inclusion & Equity – 10 Hours
• 8 hours taught in person by Emily Gilchrist, focusing on applied ethics, lived yogic practice, professional teaching responsibility, and fostering inclusion and equity within contemporary yoga spaces.
• 2 hours taught online by Guy Donnahaye, exploring the Yamas and Niyamas as foundational ethical principles within the yogic tradition.

>Subtle Body (Chakras, Nadis, Koshas & Prana Vayus) – 2.5 Hours
• 2.5 hours taught online by Guy Donnahaye, examining the subtle body framework and its relevance to both personal practice and teaching.

Module 4

PROFESSIONAL ESSENTIALS (50 HOURS)

>Cueing & Communication Skills15 Hours


15 hours of in-person instruction by Emily Gilchrist.
This section develops clear, concise, and compelling verbal and non-verbal cueing skills. Trainees learn to deliver action, alignment, anatomical, directional, breath, safety, energetic, and mindful cues that support student safety, embodiment, and awareness. Emphasis is placed on adapting language for mixed-ability learners, cultivating a confident teacher presence, and avoiding over-cueing. Teaching labs, pose breakdowns, peer observation, and reflective practice are included.

>Pacing, Rhythm & Energetic Flow of Class10 Hours


10 hours of in-person instruction by Emily Gilchrist.
Explores the timing and rhythm of teaching, including breath-led movement, pose duration, transitions, silence, voice pacing, music awareness, and the energetic arc of a class (opening, warming, peak, cooling, and rest). Trainees learn to adapt pacing to class style (vinyasa, hatha, yin), student experience, and group energy. Includes practical teaching exercises, recorded self-review, and group feedback.

>Teacher Preparation, Presence & Grounding Practices5 Hours


5 hours of in-person instruction by Emily Gilchrist.
Focuses on preparing physically, mentally, and energetically to be an effective teacher. Includes grounding techniques such as pranayama, body awareness, visualisation, mantra, gentle movement, meditation, and energetic hygiene. Emphasis is placed on arriving calm, centred, and confident, understanding teaching as an act of service, and establishing a consistent pre-class ritual.

>Class Management, Safety & Inclusivity10 Hours


10 hours of in-person instruction by Emily Gilchrist.
Covers practical skills for creating a safe, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment. Topics include room setup, use of props, demonstrations, observation skills, verbal and hands-on adjustments (with consent), time management, group dynamics, and professional presence. Trainees learn to offer accessible options for diverse bodies and abilities while maintaining clarity, flow, and safety.

>Practical Teaching Labs, Case Studies & Assessment10 Hours


10 hours taught in person and supported by guided home study, supervised and assessed by Emily Gilchrist.
Includes teaching labs, 60-minute mixed-ability class planning, contraindication scenarios and adaptations, pose breakdown practice with anatomical awareness, peer teaching, and recorded teaching case studies. Trainees complete reflective written assignments and receive structured feedback from peers and mentors to integrate cueing, pacing, and class management skills.

Module 5

PRACTICUM -TEACHING INTEGRATION (10 HOURS)

Students are encouraged to engage with this practicum throughout the duration of the programme. The required 10 hours of self-directed teaching practice are entirely achievable within the course timeframe, with teaching opportunities and guidance available across the three-month training period. Ongoing support and constructive feedback, provided through monthly teaching video submission, enabled students to track their progress and graduate feeling confident and prepared to teach. - guided by Emily Gilchrist

> Self-directed teaching within the student’s personal community

This module is primarily self-directed, supporting students in developing confidence through real-world teaching experiences. Students are required to practice teaching independently within their personal community, with recorded video evidence submitted for review.

>Demonstration of intelligent sequencing

Set sequences will be provided to support consistency, safety, and the development of intelligent sequencing, as well as transparent and inclusive cueing, effective use of voice, and professional presence.

>Encouraged opportunities to teach live classes (in person or online)

Opportunities to teach live classes, either in person or online, will be encouraged within the training group. Where available, students may also teach in one of Emily Gilchrist’s live classes. If this is not accessible, additional recorded teaching sessions within the student’s own community will be required.

>Professional Integration & Yoga Alliance Practicum Requirements

This practicum integrates asana, pranayama, and meditation, alongside safety awareness, ethical teaching standards, and professional conduct, supporting students in meeting Yoga Alliance practicum requirements and in graduating with confidence and preparation to teach.
